Amel Guettatfi is a ten-time Emmy Award–winning Algerian-American freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker. Her reporting has taken her across the globe—from Gaza, Syria, and Yemen to Mali, Niger, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Russia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2021, she and her colleagues became the first—and only—Western journalists to embed with the Wagner Group in the Central African Republic, gaining rare access to the group’s operations on the ground.
Amel’s work has appeared on VICE News Tonight on HBO, VICE on Showtime, Fault Lines (Al Jazeera English), the BBC, and PBS Frontline. Her films have also been honored with the George Polk Award, the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Overseas Press Club, and a Writers Guild Award.
